 Leelee was born in New York, on June 10, 1982. Her real name, Liliane Rudabet Gloria Elsveta Sobieski, is rich with her French and Polish heritage. Liliane being the name of her father's mother and Elsveta coming from her mother's side of the family meaning Elizabeth in Polish. She thought Liliane was too much of a formal name so used her nickname, Leelee. Despite her family never being wealthy, she is actually the direct descendant of the Polish Royalty. She says her great great great great Uncle was the King of Poland. She says that the bagel was invented for him. "A Jewish baker made it for him, in the shape of a saddle."

Leelee's acting career started out when she appeared on tv. After her movie debut in 1997 in Disney's 'Jungle 2 Jungle' she has starred in numerous films, including her lead role beside Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise in 'Eyes Wide Shut'. She has recently starred in 'Joyride', 'Max' and was a nominee for best performance by an actress in a mini-series or a motion picture made for television for her role in 'Uprising'. She has much ahead in her life. Leelee spends half her time in New York and half in Los Angeles, where she works to completing high school. After graduating this year she plans to attend college.

She still wants to paint and write although she adds to her list, to be a screenwriter and director. She puts forward her ambitions: "[In 25 years] I'll be married, I'll have 2 kids - boy and a girl. I will have directed five movies, if not more. I will have had many expositions. I will be with my kids all the time. I will travel a lot. I won't be acting as much as I am now - maybe just one movie a year. I'll be creating; I don't know what, maybe designing chairs or something!"
